A new brain imaging study published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour found that expectations about pain intensity can become self-fulfilling prophecies.
I remember when I was struggling with back pain, when I sneezed those around me would say, “That must really hurt!” It did not initially but the expectation was set that it would and it eventually did.
Same with all the rules that we are taught to follow or we hurt our back. Again, the expectation is set that if you don’t sit up straight or bend to pick up a pen, you can hurt your back.
And once your mind is programmed that way, once you come to believe it on a subconscious level, you will expect and experience pain.
One of the steps in my Nine-Step Rapid Recovery Plan is to change this programming with visualization while in peak state. It rapidly and effectively reprograms the mind not to feel pain when bending, sitting, lifting, and so on.
